Capturing Community: Inside an American Salon

  • Demuth Museum 120 East King Street Lancaster, PA, 17602 United States (map)

This special exhibition will explore Charles Demuth's peers in the Stieglitz Circle and their influential work that formed the American Modern Art movement in the early 20th century. Through loans from the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Art Bridges Collection, and private collections, 12 works of painting and photography will be paired with pieces from the Demuth Museum collection to compare and contrast artists' styles and techniques. Capturing Community offers glimpses into the artists' lives and inspirations while telling the story of how they are all connected through one man -- Alfred Stieglitz.

This is one in a series of American art exhibitions created through a multi-year, multi-institutional partnership formed by the Philadelphia Museum of Art as part of the Art Bridges Cohort Program.
