Charles Demuth & Vice

  • Demuth Program Center 116 East King Street Lancaster, PA, 17602 United States (map)

Join Alison Kibler, professor of American Studies and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Franklin & Marshall College and creator of the Lancaster Vice Project, for a special presentation on Charles Demuth and vice! Did you know that Demuth grew up in a period when vice (commercial sex, gambling, and drinking) ran "wide open" in Lancaster, as city officials encouraged and participated in vice? At this event, learn about Demuth's connections to the worlds of vice, including the Demuth Tobacco Shop, and about why he once said that he would "speak on behalf of vice." The presentation will take place on the second floor of the Demuth Program Center (116 East King Street), followed by a look inside the Demuth Tobacco Shop next door.

Admission by donation - suggested donation of $10. Space is limited and RSVP is required. Please RSVP below. Thank you!
