A Letter From The President
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want
to express my thanks to you, the members, for your generous and
enthusiastic commitment to the work of the Foundation and to its
growth in this year.
Your Foundation has continued to promote
the life and work of Charles Demuth, Lancaster’s most
world-renowned son, interpret the role of the Demuth Family in
Lancaster’s commercial development and cultural life, and
preserve the historic complex of family buildings on East King
Street. This is the
mission of your Foundation, and I am pleased that this mission
continues to guide and direct the workings of the Board of
Trustees and has been central in the successes of this past
year.
Due to your continued commitment and
enthusiasm, I am pleased to report to you the following
successes of this past year:
• Memberships are at their highest levels
since the Foundation’s inception.
• Applications for eight grants yielded
eight approvals.
• A new introductory orientation exhibit
has been established to educate visitors to the
museum on Charles Demuth, his work, and the Demuth
Family’s role in Lancaster.
• A
well attended Garden Tour of Central Pennsylvania’s most
beautiful gardens.
• Selective participation in the National
Trust for Historic Preservation’s American Artists
program. Ours
is one of only 21 museums chosen for this selective
participation.
• Increased attendance at exhibit
openings and increased access to the Demuth website.
All of these successes could not be
possible without the support of our members who contribute
financially and with many volunteer hours to ensure that the
mission of the Foundation continues.
We are also deeply appreciative of the many gifts-in-kind
extended to the Foundation over the past year.
Although too numerous to note here, I thank all those
whose names appear on the accompanying list of donors for their
confidence in the work of the Demuth Foundation.
It is an honor to serve the members of the Foundation, and I
look forward to building on the successes of our past toward the
bright prospects of another twenty years of service to Lancaster
and the world at large.
