Annual Foundation Meeting
Philadelphia Museum of Art Curator To Speak
This year the Demuth Foundation will host its annual meeting,
preceded by hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar, at the Pressroom
Restaurant at 5.30 on April 22nd, a Monday evening. Reservations
($12.00 per person) are of necessity limited because of space,
so members are urged to telephone the Foundation (299-9940)
to reserve seats well in advance.
The brief annual meeting will begin promptly at 6.00, with a
report from President John Snader, followed by a vote to endorse
the board and its officers for the next year.
Then Michael Taylor will speak about “An Artist Worthy
of the Name: Charles Demuth and the First American Avant Garde,
1914-1935.”
Born and educated in England, Mr, Taylor has been Assistant
Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Philadelphia Museum
of Art for the past four years, and manages the modern art collection
there. He is, moreover, a expert on the work of Charles Demuth’s
friend, Dadaist Marcel Duchamp
Prior to his appointment at the Philadelphia Museum, Mr. Taylor
he took degrees in art history from the University of Edinburgh
in Scotland and Courtauld Institute of Art in London. He has
curated or co-curated several exhibitions at the Philadelphia
Museum, and he has lectured widely on a number of topics.
