BASEMENT RENOVATIONS
On Saturday, October 19th, nearly two dozen Foundation members
and friends joined forces to clear out the basement, under the
museum at 118 East King Street, of over twenty years'
accumulation of files and papers, a wooden box here, and a little
stool there, old copies of the Demuth Dialogue, exhibition announcements,
garden tour invitations, and assorted bales of trash or treasure.
Discarding a great deal in the process, the stalwart cleanup
crew transported everything to be saved out to the Snuff Mill
for temporary storage.
When the basement had been completely emptied, it proved a
splendid space in which two staff offices and a small conference
room can be constructed, with flooring, dry wall, a new electrical
system, adequate heating, and other embellishments to satisfy
fire codes, including a railing to facilitate use of the outside
stairs down to the door into the basement.
Tippetts Weaver Architects are designing the project, and Gallagher
Construction, Inc., is building it.
Armstrong World Industries, Inc., is generously supplying a
ceiling for the space, and Hamilton Equipment, Inc., has been
equally generous in donating paint and other supplies.
