Photographs by Ferdinand Demuth

Charles Demuth's father, Ferdinand A. Demuth (1857-1911), was a respected amateur photographer. The architectonic forms of Ferdinand's subject matter can be seen in the paintings of Demuth. Ferdinand photographed Lancaster's Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity which stands beside the Demuth snuff factory on Mifflin Street. It is this very steeple that can be seen from the Demuth House and was subject matter for Charles in his paintings.
